FMARA SEASON IS OVER.....SEE YOU IN 2012 ! ! !
"THE REST OF THE STORY"
Barnum Motorsports was started in 1990 in Ohio when Jamie Barnum was nine years old by his father, Jim Barnum. Many years were spent running their red #17 quarter midget throughout the midwest as members of the NWOQMRA which is based in Toledo, Ohio. After nearly a thirteen year hiatus, and a move to Florida, Jim brought back Barnum Motorsports in 2008. Jamie, joined by his brother Ray Smith began racing their familiar car #17, this time a TQ midget, in the Florida Midget Auto Racing Association (http://www.fltqmidgets.com). The only midget racing association active in Florida. Most of the races are held at the Punta Gorda Speedway(www.puntagordaspeedway.com) in Punta Gorda, FL. In their first season, Jamie finished fifth in the overall points and won the "2008 Rookie of the Year" award. In 2009 they became a two car team with Jamie running the #7 and Ray becoming the driver of the #17. Season number two saw Jamie finishing runner-up in the points battle to New Jersey great and "Hall of Fame" member "The Legend" Jack Duffy. An outstanding rookie season enabled Ray to finish 3rd in the points behind Jamie and become the 2009 "Rookie of the Year". The 2010 season saw Jamie repeat in his runner-up position in points, this time to Club Champion Ted Durfee. After a violent flip mid-way through the season which took the car out of competition for several weeks, Ray still managed a 4th place points finish in the #17. After the season, we sold the #17 to the Maier family from Port ST Lucie, FL. and we have been building Ray a new car . Building the car has not been going as fast as we had hoped, but it is our top priority to have it ready for the first race of the 2012 season. Early season woes caused a few DNF's for Jamie's car #7 at the start of the 2011 season, but he still managed a fifth place tie in the points with our buddy, John CIolino in his #14. Pit support comes from our crew of Stephanie Barnum, Jamie's wife, and their children Jacob (Jake) and Madison (Sissy) A Big YEA !!!! goes out to Sissy who started walking on November 6, 2011. It won't be long before Grandpa has her in a race car! More pit support comes from Ray's bride Brittani, whom he marrried on November 12, 2012 and from his daughter McKenzie. A very special "THANK YOU" goes out to Jim's wife Joanne, who not only is there every week for pit support but also allows Jim to spend the money! Also to John Ciolino, a fellow racer, who comes to the shop several times a week to help with the car preparation. And to Jim's neighbor Bob Kus, Thanks, for being Barnum Motorsports number one supporter and fan!

GIMMLER WINS SEASON ENDING FEATURE CAPE CORAL, FL FAST SYNTHECTICS
Chris Gimmler in the #51 out of Palm Beach Gardens started on the pole and led the entire twenty five laps as he became the final feature winner of the 2011 season for the Florida Midget Auto Racing Association (FMARA)Saturday night November 5th at Punta Gorda Speedway. The race was slowed twice for cautions as Jay Stutz in the #6 spun in turn one on the first lap. The second caution came when Jamie Barnum out of Brooksville in his #7 Hurricane Chassis spun midway through the race as a result of oil on the track. Season Point Champion Mike Belusar in Jimmy McKinney's #30 tried hard to past Gimmler in the closing laps but was unable to get enough grip to get the job done. Belusar would have to settle for second. As Gimmler crossed the finish line his engine erupted in smoke. Rounding out the top five was Geoff Styner in the #2 third and Barnum coming back through the pack to finish fourth. Congratulations to Driver Champion Mike Belusar and his car owner Jimmy McKinney for winning the final points championship. It was a rough year for Barnum Motorsports but Jamie still managed a fifth place tie for the Drivers Championship with our good friend, John Ciolino in his #14. Congratulations to John for being runner up in the "Rookie of the Year" championship and also to Steven Maier who purchased our old car #17 and drove it to the rookie crown. Thank you to all our fans for following us this season and we look forward to returning to two racing in the 2012 season. See you in the spring!
